Jumping back in to a new creative project today on an amazing workshop put together by the PIYN crew and 2 UK ambassadors, Swifty and Paul Bradshaw. Basically we’re creating a zine which in some way (and I’m sure that’ll become more apparent on day 2 of the project) represents New Zealand creative culture. It’s an experiment of sorts and the passion and spark in the room has really got the pot bubblin for day 2 which is about collecting all our idea’s / concepts / content and getting it in to some kind of physical form.
Before we hit that stage I wanted to ask you to contribute to all little feature for the zine based on 3 simple statements.
Food for the mind
Food for the body
Food for the soul
So my question to you is “how do you fulfill these statements in your week”? What does it mean for you? I’d like to collect your answers, opinions, statements and get a little snapshop for this kind of “cultural visitors guide” to NZ.
It could be as simple as your favorite local book shop, pulled pork taco and view from a cliff top but I’ll leave that to you, it’s always difficult to choose between pulled pork and fish taco’s!! (Please add your answers in the comments below and leave your first name and occupation to give it a little context)
Edit: Some projects just happen spontaneously so we actually need this by tomorrow 16 May to make it in time for the zine launch in 3 days!!
Food for the mind: Panmure Library – They even have online music downloads!
Food for the body: Coffee at the Good One/Coffee Supreme on Douglas Street in Ponsonby. Best. Coffee. Evah. And the best service. National Geographic mags on the walls…
Food for the soul: Any time I pick up my bass. But a good recharge is Charlie Baxter’s in Ellerslie.
Food for the mind:
I read and read and read! Newspapers, magazines, books, blogs, Facebook, Twitter… I constantly need to find out about everything, people think it’s just music, but really, I’m quite the renaissance “man” with a very good idea about a lot of things. Most of my friends are scientists, and I’m fully capable of having a proper conversation with them, without them needing to dumb it down for me.
Food for the body:
Lim’s on K’Rd all the way. Feeds me and makes me happy because it feeds me so cheaply. Also expands my horizon on fantastic fizzy drinks like banana-tadpoles (=basil seed drink) or mushroom flavoured soda. Wha..?
Food for the soul:
Sitting by the sea, my mind just drifting
Mind: Full breath exercise.. prayer.. listening and playing with my kids
Body: Full breath exercise.. Crown restaurant Yum Cha.. Vietnam cafe and monday night fresh fish haha
Soul: my kids.. Listening to new music.. my radio show.. giging..
Mind: The Internet is a well of information and opinion. It fills my head with possible and impossible possibilities – the stuff dreams are made of.
Body: new flavour combos and enjoying ol classics. Sweet aromas and colorful views.
Soul: nothing sets or changes moods like music. It can pierce memories buried in the subconscious – magic
