Since putting on the Music Machines event in 2009 we’ve been asked ever since if we’re going to do it again. It was such a great day and we had such amazing feedback that we’re gonna have another crack at it again this year. We’ve booked it in for Saturday November 27th 2010.

The premise of the event last year was to bring together New Zealand’s largest collection of synths and drum machines in one room so that you could come and check them out, chat to some of the collectors and most important of all, get to try them out. We succeeded in making this happen and most of the thanks has to go to all the people who brought their kit along on the day. It couldn’t have happened without everybody getting involved and sharing their love of all things that go bleep!

NZ is home to some amazing beat makers and producers and this week I wanted to point you over to a couple of new mixes which have just been put together by the boys over at The Jewel School on Radioactive in Wellington. The mixes were out together for NZ Music month and feature some amazing tracks by artists including Ladi 6, Fat Freddys Drop, Julien Dyne, Electric Wire Hustle, Opensouls and Adi Dick.

The boys don’t just focus on the bigger NZ artists so there’s also a whole bunch of unreleased tracks including a couple by yours truly (The Shades remix and my new moniker BVX). I’m actually really proud to by included in such great company and am excited to see just how cutting edge and deep NZ production is at the moment. You can check out the mixes online and I’ve asked if we can make them available for download, i’ll let ya know here and on my Bluevibe studio twitter page when you can grab em as a download.

May is NZ Music Month and Bluevibe studio are gonna be putting on a producers showcase with the help of Dylan C and the Loop sessions regular gig at Rakinos. I asked Dylan if he’d let me put together a little night of fresh local talent and he was more than happy to let me do it. It took 2 days of tweets and meetings to rustle up a few locals to help with the show and I’m really pleased to have a great lineup for the night.

It’s gonna be great to have all these guys come down and drop some new and unreleased tracks on the Rakinos faithful so if your in the area on May 13th then make sure you come down to check it out. We’ve got a facebook event for the gig all up and running so head over and check it out. I’m hoping that this will be a regular thing because there are so many local producers who maybe don’t get the chance to play out that often and i’d really like to show some support for the studio boffins out there. We’re also going to be putting together a lickle compilation CD for the night with tracks from all the producers which your not gonna be able to grab anywhere else. So it’s been an amazing year here at Bluevibe studio and I’d firstly like to thank all of the people who have supported me over the last 12 months by either checkin the blog, checkin the music and maybe even buying the new EP. So much has happened for me in 2008 I thought I’d run through some of the highlights and share some amazing plans I’m already cookin for 2009, it’s gonna be a big year that’s for sure.

• I released the first EP from The Ghostfaders which is still available as a free download and will be writing and releasing the second EP in early 09, again for free, so watch this space. The new EP’s gonna feature a few more guest instrumentalists and is gonna be heavier and dirtier than last time, I’m already saturating the tape deck!
• I also started working over at The Depot Artspace as an artist career facilitator and have met and worked with some amazing and inspiring musicians this year. Huge plans over there for next year including the launch of a new resource website for artists as part of the Creative Peoples’ Centre; more workshops and seminars for musicians plus we’re already planning something special for NZ music month.
• I’ve also been working with Depot sound recording studio to create a new audio community over at the studio for 09. This will include giving upcoming audio engineers access to the amazing facilities and holding regular workshops with established engineers who will be sharing their knowledge and getting together with the engineers to work on new recording projects. If your based in Auckland and would like to get involved just drop me a message and I’ll let you know once we’re up and running.
• Finally I released my first Bluevibe studio EP – This life volume.1 which is now available in a store near you. I’m really proud of this first release under the Bluevibe moniker and would like to thanks all the crew involved in helping produce the EP. I’ll be starting work on the next in the series in Feb 09 and will be looking for new vocalists and remix artists to get involved, again drop me a line if you like the first EP and want to colab.

I’ve really enjoyed blogging in 08 and despite my lack of posts in Dec (life’s been just too crazy) I’ve fully upgraded the whole back end and will be adding a new design and new feastures in early 09.
